Here at the North Somerset Film Office, we aim to help make filming in the area by:

  • Overseeing commercial filming taking place on all land and within buildings owned by North Somerset Council
  • Issue film permits with quick turnaround times
  • Hold a locations database of both our locations and private submissions to help you find what you are looking for from our wide range of filming locations.
  • Offer a register your location/property service to allow and encourage people to register their property or business as a filming location.
  • Encourage film-friendly residents and businesses to showcase their locations and properties on our local database as a potential filming locations

Filming brings a wide range of direct benefits to North Somerset, including production spending money with our local businesses such as cafes, restaurants and hotels.

There are also indirect economic benefits of filming including bringing increased exposure to the area and increasing screen tourism which brings additional audiences to our community and businesses.

Why North Somerset?

North Somerset Film Office has been recognised as a developed film office since 2022 with the goal of streamlining the film permit application process for North Somerset filming.

 

It is run by the Economic Development team at North Somerset Council who have invested in UK’s leading film application software “MovieSite, OpenBrolly” for applications and to house our database of locations offered.

 

The team is run by the Economic Development team at North Somerset Council who will support you with filming needs by processing your applications as swiftly as possible and striving to be film friendly.

 

The area boasts a wide variety of location including coastal, green spaces, historic, and landscapes that are recognised as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).


North Somerset is also located, bordering multiple other local authority areas including Bristol City Council, Bath and North East Somerset Council, Somerset County Council and South Gloucestershire Council, each with dedicated film offices.

 

As a result, the area is near many major towns and cities including Cheddar, Wells, Bristol and Bath while containing excellent transport links, including the M5 linking the area to the UKs major cities such as Cardiff and London.
